About   Philip Cussins House

As part of the Jewish Community in the NE we carried forward a 50 year tradition of the care for our senior citizens in the Joel Intract Home in Sunderland when we opened Philip Cussins Home as a registered residential care home in Linden Road, Gosforth in 1996.

In recent years we have welcomed residents of all faiths and no faith.

We are committed to the belief that while our residents may have retired from work, maybe lost a partner, reached an august age, be a little frail, life is still to be lived and enjoyed.

PCH, as we call it, is situated in a leafy part of Gosforth in Newcastle upon Tyne. It has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our dedicated and caring staffs provide 24 hour care and attention for our residents. It provides peace and privacy when you need it and companionship when you are looking for it. It is a good place to find old friends and to make new ones. We are always pleased to see visitors. It is a place where you can make your own family and friends welcome when they come to see you. The house itself, originally an elegant Edwardian house, was totally refurbished prior to its opening in 1996 with nearly all its bedrooms with en-suite facilities and showers.

Outside there are very pleasant gardens, lovely for sitting in on sunny days. The shopping centre of Gosforth High Street with any number of boutiques and cafe's and Gosforth Park are within walking distance for most residents. The two synagogues are not far away as well as local churches. Inside there is the atmosphere of a Jewish home with all its festivities, while the religious and spiritual side of life is provided for those who seek it.
The staff and many volunteers from the local Communities are there to help you lead your own life, sharing a full programme of activities, as you choose. You can also enjoy the leisure and cultural activities of Newcastle and the wonderful countryside of Northumberland and Durham for days out.
Two other matters of some importance.

We monitor our charges against those of other residential care homes in the vicinity. They do not cover our operating expenses but our charitable endowments allow us to provide for that and top-ups are always appreciated but not required.

And be assured that we will at all times be sensitive to your individual needs and in particular to your health needs. In particular, you will retain your own GP with the back-up of NHS District Nurses.

We discuss all matters of health and finance discreetly and in total confidence.
Philip Cussins House is all about enabling you to lead your life as you would in your own home.

Although our endowed funds are sizeable they diminish, and Trustees will always welcome new financial support by way of subscription and donation, with gift aid where possible, and by legacy.

You have been like a second family to her. I couldn't have asked for anything more.
From Marie Ernstone Family

May I express my appreciation for the constant care and kindness shown to me.
From Sorrel Rosenberg

It was a huge relief to us to know that her last days were spent being cared for by kindly familiar faces in familiar surroundings.

 Miriam's Joyful Day On Tynside

Miriam Margolyes, star of Harry Potter series, Magnolia, Blackadder and many other productions, gave her support to Gateshead's Stroke Association in the morning - her mother had been a stoke victim -  and, in the afternoon, visited the residents of Philip Cussins House Residential Home.  Alan Share "Miriam's wonderful personality brightened an otherwise grey December day for residents and staff alike"
