Moving into a residential care home is a big step to take, and we will give you all the time you need to talk it through. We can give you the benefit of our experience and our knowhow and introduce you to many of the people you will meet, our staff, other residents and some of volunteers that contribute to the activities going on here all the time.

We can also offer respite care when rooms are available. Day care is available too.

Philip Cussins House is a company limited by guarantee, registered as a Charity with the Charity Commission*. Its trustees are elected to serve for a period of three years, after which they can be re-elected at the next Annual General Meeting.

While its main charitable objective is to provide a home for older persons of the Jewish Faith over the age of 65 who may require financial assistance and who reside in the North East, it welcomes residents of all faiths or no faith. We are, however, not registered as a Nursing Home.

The Trustees are responsible for the overall management of the Charity and its Endowment funds. They are supported in this by a House & Social Committee that meets weekly and can help and advise when we receive applications for accommodation, this help and advice always in total confidence. Martin Levinson is the chair of trustees and Carole Lurie is a Trustee and member of the House & Social Committee.

The Trustees are responsible for appointing a General Manager, in this case Margaret Lemon who also has been with us since 1998, and she is responsible for working within a budget provided by the Trustees each year, appointing and managing our staff and addressing the needs and welfare of our residents in accordance with best practice.

We value the fact that there have been very few staff changes since we opened, important ones only through retirement, this very much to the benefit of our residents.

Meeting national requirements we have a Policy Statement, Key Contract Terms for Residents, Admission routines, Procedures for Staff Training, and a Complaints Procedure and we make available a Copy of the last inspection report.
